Things you’ve done at nursery.

I cannot believe that a month has now passed,
Those post Christmas weeks seemed to fly by so fast?

But with the New Year came a very big day,
As I rhymed that “You started your preschool today”.

I hope that one day you will read it with pride,
And see how you took this huge leap in your stride,

And so, to reflect on your first month of fun,
Here is a list of the things you have done…

Just as I’d hoped, you were happy to stay,
A quick kiss goodbye and you ran off to play.

But your instant impression was not of the toys,
Nor was it fixed on the new girls and boys?

No. Your immediate priority,
Was to check out the loos stating:
“I need a wee!”

And with characters drawn on each door of the loo,
From Room on the Broom and The Gruffalo too.

It seemed that you would not accept Nature’s call
Until you had finished inspecting them all.

And then as you’d barely stepped out of the door.
You rushed back inside to inspect them once more.

Your lovely new teacher obliged this routine,
For more than four times.
Then she stopped you.
(How mean?)

You loved their new games which went down quite a treat,
But “sitting” caused tantrums with stamping of feet.

Stopping to eat isn’t part of your plan.
So lunchtime is dodged any way that you can,

And one day, “apparently” by some mistake,
Your daft “Silly Mummy” had only packed cake?

Your sandwiches DEFINITELY hadn’t been hidden!*
(You see, without eating them cake is forbidden).

*You are definitely my daughter! Nice try sunshine ;0)

And all hell broke lose in the preschool bathroom.
When some other child was in “Room on the Broom!!”

As that was the loo that YOU wanted to use!
And so your solution was just to refuse.

Your huge diva strop didn’t quite do the trick,
So you dropped to the floor and made threats to be sick.

And then we had what we’ve since named “Cushion Gate”
Another child had it.
You weren’t keen to wait.

So thought that you’d take it by violence instead,
By bashing a toy trolley into her head.

Which I have to admit made me somewhat alarmed!?
(Thankfully no little people were harmed)

But this was the hardest school pick up by far,
As we both did the shuffle of shame to the car.

But trolleys aside, most days passed without care,
You’ve rushed up to greet me with sand in your hair.

You’ve loved all the games and the stories and play,
And been ready for home at the end of each day.

You’ve asked for your Mummy the odd once or twice,
But all of your teachers are ever so nice.

And one day your key worker pulled a sad face,
So you ran up to give her your warmest embrace.

They think “You’re a joy” which has filled me with pride,
And makes me feel mushy and gushy inside.

I’m thrilled at the lovely young girl you’ve become,
And I’m proud to be able to say
“I’m your Mum!”

So now as I come to the end of your list,
Please know that at home you’ve been very much missed .

And each time you see me arrive at the door,
Just know that I love you a little bit more.

Well done Tinks.

Love you

  1. I can’t believe it’s been a month either! Are our babies growing up too quickly or what?! The bit about the cake really made me laugh!! You’ve got a very clever one on your hands there – enjoy!! Xxx

  2. It’s so nice that your little one can look back o something like this. I remember my six year olds first days at nursery as if it were yesterday! Goes by all too quickly. Lovely post x

  3. Ah it’s lovely to see she’s settled in!We nicknamed one of my boys “the toilet inspector” as he was exactly the same :-D! It’s great for them to play and get to interact yet at the same time hard for us to let go isn’t it xx

    1. What is it with toilets? I have to stop the littlest one trying to kick stuff? I mean really!?? It melts my heart when I see her run in and sit with her friends. I know she’s ready though and loving it. She’s just not my baby any more 🙁 Thanks hon xx

  4. What a lovely little ditty
About your girl, I bet she’s pretty
I know just how you beam with pride
I have been there, I’ve almost cried
These little people that we make
    Are amazing and no mistake
But will they bloody learn to sleep?
I’m off to bed with Ewan the sheep

    1. Haha Yey!

I love that you have spent the time, to write such lovely things in rhyme,
I wish you peace and restful sleep,
Not forced to share with snoring sheep,
And may your tranquil mummy bed,
Be free from feet that kick your head!

Night night and thank you for your fab comment! ;0) xx

  5. Aww sounds like she’s doing really well! Loving her cake trick! My littlest one has become Room on the Broom obsessed – she wouldn’t be letting anyone in the Room on the Broom toilet either (& she still wears nappies!) #justanotherlinky

    1. Haha, these tots are just all about the territory aren’t they? Room on The Broom is definitely the favourite, although she quite likes them all, which is problematic if anyone else is rude enough to need the toilet during their day at nursery 😉 Thank you x

  6. Aww this is so lovely. Looks like it has been a very eventful first month at play school. The toilets do sound pretty amazing, if my toddler was toilet trained he would be fighting over the room on the Broom loo too. This will be so lovely for your daughter to see when she’s older.xx #Fartglitter

  7. so funny – love the diva strop! your children are so lucky to have such a talented mummy – the giggles they will have when they are older and can read back will be so wonderful for them #justanotherlinky

    1. Aw thank you! I hope so. I’ll probably just end up being “That Mum” that digs out the embarrassing rhymes when their friends come over, while they roll their eyes and cringe haha. Thanks for commenting x

  8. I can see why having different pictures on each of the toilet doors could be a cause for arguments when it comes to little people and cushion gate does sound embarsssing, but it sounds like she is doing fabulously.
Thanks for sharing with us, Tracey xx #abitofeverything
