Dear Husband – A Guest Post by The Laughing Mum

Welcome to the third post in the “Cheers!” Series!

Those of you that have popped by my site before will know that I am a tiny bit obsessed with rhyming. “Cheers!” is a series of rhyming guest posts that I am honoured to share, mostly with a parenting theme, from some of the most talented and lovely people in Blogland!

Today’s post comes from The Laughing Mum – a blogger after my own heart who had me instantly hooked with a fabulous rhyming comment. Her motto is “you’ve got to laugh” (so true) and she writes great posts like I AM a Yummy Mummy!  Once I’d discovered her love for the wine (as long as it’s after 5pm) I just knew that I needed to share one of her fabulous rhymes.

Dear Husband

All those years ago,

you stood by my side,

with hand on my bump,

and my darling you lied!

You said that this person,

the one we both made,

would just be so perfect,

but now I’m afraid.

She entered this world,

all cuddly and cute,

but ever since then,

I cant find the mute!

You told me don’t worry,

We’ll do this together,

Then you f**ked off to work,

Oh, weren’t you so clever!

You rang during the day,

to ask how she’d been,

I said she was fine,

in fact she was no where to be seen!

You said you would night feed,

you said you didn’t mind,

but when did you do that?

I must have been blind!

You said you would cook,

and help put her to bed,

but if she wouldn’t go down,

you just called me instead!

“Lets have another!”

after 3 years you chimed,

I was so tired and irrational,

I agreed at the time!

And as daughter number 2,

arrived into the world,

You thought it was great,

to have another girl.

You did it again,

You told me those lies ,

I rolled my eyes this time,

I wasn’t stupid, I was wise.

Life as a four,

was a breeze, it was fine,

You thought it  was brilliant,

My secret? I had wine!

  1. Aww! Thanks so much for having me! I love your rhymes, and I love to have a go at rhymes too occasionally, you know for birthdays and ‘stuff’ lol, so I really enjoyed doing this! Hope everyone loves it! Thanks again x

  2. Haha these bloody men! They wouldn’t be so keen if they were the ones who had to become the house slave lol. I might as well change my name to Dobby 😉

Wine and gin, something to look forward to in the evening!

    Great poem 🙂

  3. Haha this is fabulous! Made me giggle, mainly cos it’s so bloody true! It’s always the men saying “let’s have more kids!” Knowing full well the real hard work starts once they’re at the office and we’re home alone with the babies! Thanks for sharing #dreamteam

  4. Love this poem! Showed it to my Hubby and he just looked at me, apparently he thought I was implying something! (I was, I really really was) #dreamteam

  5. tehe someone else as nutty and clever as you! I will thank my lucky stars for my cooking and night getting up husband now. Less whining from Sarah!! Thanks for sharing with #bestandworst x

    1. Haha yep you’ve definitely got a keeper there Sarah. To be fair I can’t grumble. Mine might not be Gordon Ramsey but he kept me company through just about every night feed! It’s a fab rhyme though isn’t it! Thanks for hosting and reading hun xx

  6. He sounds like a keeper! 🙂 Another wonderful poet, I’m amazed you guys keep it up week after week. I find the whole writing sentences and paragraphs hard enough without introducing rhymes into it!

  7. He, he, fab post! This reminds me so much of my experience the first time round. I am setting my expectations very low this time so that im not so dissapointed when it happens again second time round 😉 Thanks for linking this up to #MarvMondays. Emily
