Welcome to the new Rhyming with Wine…

Our old hosted site has now got up and gone,

You’ve been redirected to our new .com!

It’s lovely to see you, so please come on in!

New rhymes are here waiting,

And so I’ll begin….

I thought I might muddle together a post,

On my recent decision to try to self host.

But once we had done it, I gave it some thought,

The post if I did so would end up quite short?

There’s not much to say about how I got through it:

Just passed it to hubby and yelled

The hubby is really quite ‘techy you see,

And not such a dinosaur!

(Most unlike me!)

But I’m pleased that you’re here and you’ve found your new way,

Please save this page as I’m now here to stay!

And then if you fancy, just before you go,

You might like to follow my new blog below?

So please do pop back when you fancy a brew,

There will always be coffee and cake here for you!

And thank you for reading and sharing your time.

You’ll always be welcome at Rhyming with wine!

  1. ? well done you… and snap! (I am waiting for the migration). Did it take long for the transfer and are you sticking with the button theme? X

    1. Aw yey! I didn’t know you were making the jump too? We could have held hands haha. Yes I’m sticking with the Button theme as I really like it. I haven’t really even looked at other themes yet as I didn’t particularly want my page to look all that different – for now anyway! We (well the hubby) installed WordPress and exported / imported to new site all in about 15 mins. We redirected the site through WordPress too and that was instant. The long bit was getting the right plug ins as we had some problems installing the main one we wanted (jetpack). All sorted now though. It’s probably taken us about 8 hours altogether over a couple of days. I think it depends who you chose to use etc. Good luck though hun it’s very exciting! I’ll look forward to seeing your new blog! Xx

  2. Yay, self-hosted! Welcome to the land of the, er, self-hosted bloggers! It’s LOADS better being self-hosted, albeit more expensive. I’ve been making a list of my fave bloggers and just added you to it (that has nothing to do with you being self-hosted! I’m just making a little list of people I want to nominate for all these blog award thingys that are suddenly popping up)

    1. Thank you lovely! That’s really kind and I love your blog too!! Now that I’ve got this bit (almost) done I can start looking at the blog awards thingys (which is how they shall now always be known πŸ™‚ ) too and get some nominations in. You too will be on my list!

      Fingers crossed and good luck!

      Dawn x

    1. It feels huge doesn’t it!? I’ve now just got to try and rebuild my stats etc but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that things will soon be up and running again. Thank you for your comment lovely x

    1. Thank you! It wasn’t as scary as I expected to be honest, although I would have been stuck without my hubby! I am utterly useless and I am amazed that I actually manage to put words onto the internet sometimes! πŸ˜€ Thanks for commenting xx

  3. I’m still not sure why I’d make the move to self hosted, and after seven years blogging I doubt I’ll do it anytime soon. But I love your rhyme about it πŸ™‚ # #marvmondays

    1. Thanks Emma! I can see why you wouldn’t want to switch as your site is so well established! I must admit it breaks my heart to see that I now have 2 subscribers! (Both lovely, but both related to me!) *sobs* πŸ˜‰ It is a bit like starting again, but then as I had only been blogging 7 months it felt like now was a good time. Things must be working really well for you as you are so why change! Thanks for reading and commenting x

    1. Yey! Thank you for popping by. It feels quite scary setting up a new page and leaving your old one behind doesn’t it? I love it, but every time someone visits my new site I think “phew, they’ve found me!” It would be rubbish here without you all, and even I can’t eat all this cake by myself!? πŸ˜‰ xx

  4. You survived! It’s a bit of a minefield eh?! Congrats to being the new self hosted you! Glad to see the mini Dawn avatar is still with us πŸ™‚

    1. Oh nooooooo! I don’t think I’ll come up on wordpress reader any more either, and all my previous email subscriptions will no longer work *sobs into cake*. It’s always nice to have friends round to your new pad though. Makes it feel more homely πŸ™‚

Are you self hosted hun? X

  5. Congratulations on your new self hosted blog! I’m glad I’m not the only one who might, possibly, deal with all technical issues by saying ‘it’s not working’ & handing it over to long suffering OH/minion! #marvmondays

    1. There is a reason we married these people! ? My lovely hubby has spent the last 7 months saying “Nah, What’s the point” (Not just about self hosting, just blogging in general). I then, might, possibly have mentioned advertising and that if the blog grows enough it might earn us a couple of pennies. Within 24 hours I was self hosted! I knew there was no point me trying to tackle it alone. I am absolutely useless at “doing” I.T! Thanks for your comment x

    1. Haha, to be fair the hubby had to be nagged for several months before finally caving in. He now refers to it as “our” blog though which is mildly alarming! Expect to see F1 related posts appearing shortly…. Thank you πŸ™‚ x

  6. I see this was some time ago… But I always love reading your rhymes! πŸ™‚ AND I still found you when I started blogging about 5 weeks ago so you’ve done a good job! πŸ˜‰
